Anwar Urges His Staff to Suppress Dengue with PSN 3M Plus Movement

East Jakarta Mayor, Muhammad Anwar, urged his staff to promote the eradication of mosquito nests by draining, burying and covering (PSN 3M), in order to reduce the number of dengue fever cases.

He asserted the urban village and sub-district heads must be more active in going to the field in handling dengue fever together with levels of society, at least carrying out PSN 3M plus twice a week.

"All levels of society, assisted by urban village and sub-district officials, must carry out PSN-3M Plus. This is to provide a sense of security and comfort for the community," he said, Monday (4/29).

According to him, a more effective effort was the need for people to become independent wiggler hunters (Jumantik) in their respective homes. Each house must have one Jumantik.

East Jakarta Health Sub-agency Acting Head, Herwin Mefendy uttered the current highest number of dengue fever is in the Cakung area, with 293 cases, followed by Pasar Rebo with 187 cases, Matraman with 121 cases, Pulogadung with 114 cases, Ciracas with 165 cases, Cipayung with 131 cases, Kramat Jati with 151 cases, Makasar with 56 cases, Duren Sawit with 105 cases, and Jatinegara with 50 cases.

"To minimize it, we are implementing PSN 3M plus together with community, urban village and sub-district elements. We deployed two to three health workers for each activity," he explained.

He went on to say that the age most affected by dengue is children. Hence, schools are a vulnerable group for transmission to be targeted in dengue fever control and prevention programs.

Despite East Jakarta's Cumulative Incidence Rate is not as high as other regions, the total cumulative number of cases is quite high. Thus, the chance of dengue fever transmission in the community is still high, moreover there is still high rainfall throughout this period.

Cakung Sub-district Head, Fajar Eko Satrio added the high number of dengue fever was due to old data or patients who had recovered being re-entered in the data recap. So, the numbers were high.

He asserted that his party would intensify PSN 3M activities three times a week involving all elements of society.

"Then proceed with fogging if the results of the epidemiological investigation are positive," he stated.
